My daughter is almost 16 months and has slept next to me since day 1. Ditto everything you said. Especially reverse cycling since I work full time. If I didn't have that time with her at night, I would only be snuggling her a couple of hours per day, and that is not enough for me or her.

Oh! I love this post!

We've coslept with all three of our boys (nearly eight years old, nearly two years old, and nearly two months old) since birth. The oldest was in our bed until he was four. By his choice he moved to a twin bed in our room. When his brother was born, he moved to his own room.

Our king mattress is on the floor (it always has been) and we added a twin bed next to it when the third boy was born. The toddler and my husband chose to snuggle on the twin while the baby and I get the king mattress (easier for hopping over him to switch sides for nursing).

We've had nurses (at the hospital after my second child was born), parents, friends, and strangers tell us how terrible we are for cosleeping. But I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Great list and great answers...

The question I get asked most is -
"Won't they still be sleeping with you when they are 8? 10? 15?"

Our twins moved to their own room at age two and our singleton moved to his own bed (in our room) when he was 2.5.... because it was the right time for all of us to make those moves. I don't know any co-sleepers who still regularly share a bed with their teenagers... but I hope mine will still join us for a cuddle and a chat and the odd snooze no matter how old they are!

It's always interesting to me to read about how different families make co-sleeping work for them. We have our mattress on the floor with the wall on Daddy's side, a bedrail on my side, and Baby in the middle. For naps, Baby sleeps alone (after I nurse him to sleep that is) but I stay within sight. We just have a small apartment, so I can see the bed from the kitchen so I wash dishes most naptimes!

We actually haven't had anyone ask. I guess because they're just too uncomfortable to bring it up? Or maybe they just think we can't at all? They must be wondering where #2 came from. ;)

LOL...I'm laughing at your dad's comment.

Our son crawled off the bed once, at 20 months. I think a mattress directly on the floor is a great option for co-sleepers or just young children in general.

My son didn't sleep in our bed until he was 4.5 months old. Before then I was a little sleep deprived and had to take a nap every day. After I started bringing him into bed I slept so much better! We sleep cycle, so we wake up at the same times during the night, so there is no sleep disturbance, and nursing him helps put me back to sleep. I glad he still nurses at night because he's starting to cut back on day feedings, and I still want him to nurse.

It's always the sex question! (We bedshare with our 13mo.) What is it about having kids that makes it OK for everyone to ask about your sex life?? I mean, I've got people asking how/where we have sex since we bedshare, I've got my mother asking if our daughter was conceived on our vacation, I've got people asking *if we meant to have a baby*. Seriously? None of these question are socially acceptable. I guess I'm glad my friends and family feel so comfortable with me, but rein it in a little, people! [end rant]

Way TMI I’m going to find it difficult to sit on a chair when I visit. I’m good with the rest of this post but that first part I needed to pop a nitro tab.
