Archive for June, 2010

So, I’m sure this is getting old for any of you who read my blog lately but I am continually amazed that I CAN SEW! Whodathunkit?

The deadline for the Carnival of Nursing in Public is right around the corner!  Next Wednesday, June 30th.  The response has been exceptional!  Let’s keep the momentum going!
Here’s some of the exciting things going on:

International Involvement

We are very excited to be partnering with Genitori Channel – an Italian parenting site.  They recently ran a photo contest for breastfeeding “In the light of the Sun” – the Italian phrase for “Nursing in Public.”  Allatta il tuo bimbo “alla luce del sole.” Isn’t that a beautiful phrase?

I’m always happy to see celebrities admit and share their fertility treatment journey.  I think it does a huge disservice, and I’m not naming any names, to all infertile women when some pretend they naturally conceived.  Constance Marie (from The George Lopez Show) talks candidly about her journey including many things we’ll all recognize: HSG, Clomid, IUI, miscarriages, IVF.  It was finally her FET that brought her daughter Luna.

I love the way she describes ICSI;
“They would take my egg and thin the outer layer — because it had grown hard and bitchy over my 38+ years… Continue reading Constance Marie Speaks Out About Her Infertility Journey

I finally caught up in my Reader so I have a long list today!  Here is some of the great stuff I read this week!  You can always see what I’m reading at my Google Reader Public Page. Visit Authentic Parenting and Hobo Mama for more Sunday Surfing!

Come Home, Snowflakes, Come Home

Last Friday I had planned a Big Announcement but I was thwarted by this.  So, here goes…

We are doing our first Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) in July!

We considered keeping it secret so we could surprise everyone if we get pregnant.  However, I really need all of your prayers, positive thoughts, and support.  It really means so much to me and I can’t imagine going through this without all of you.  Yes, you.  If you are reading this then you are part of my FET team.  Welcome! :)

What does a FET entail?  Here is… Continue reading Come Home, Snowflakes, Come Home

artwork by Erika Hastings at Mudspice.comIt seems like we can never go more than a few weeks without a mother breastfeeding her child in public making the headlines. In the last three months alone a Denver, CO mother created a stir when she nursed her newborn daughter at a Colorado Rockies game; a Tampa, FL mother was asked to nurse her toddler in private rather than in the school lobby; and a server at an Old Country Buffet in St. Paul, MN demanded that a mother cover… Continue reading Carnival of Nursing in Public Call for Submissions

My husband and daughter were in a car accident today.

Yeah, that is not a fun sentence to type.  They were on the way to the zoo with another SAHD and his 18 mo. old daughter when they T-boned another car.  Everyone had their seatbelts/carseats securely fastened so all the injuries were related to that.  Aellyn has ugly bruises on both her shoulders and a rub-abrasion on her neck.  She is also limping like an old man but the doctor said she is just sore from the impact with the carseat harness.  No broken bones.  No concussion. God bless… Continue reading Lessons From the Car Accident

What?  It is Monday?  Oh man.  I’m so behind!  We’ve had quite a week here and I’m quite behind on my Google Reader so I’m sure there will be more next week when I catch up!  Here is some of the great stuff I read this week!  You can always see what I’m reading at my Google Reader Public Page. I. Don’t. Have. Secondary. Infertility. Thankyouverymuch.

Secondary Infertility, as a medical diagnosis, is new-onset infertility after previously having a naturally conceived, biological child.  According to RESOLVE:
Secondary infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant, or to carry a pregnancy to term, following the birth of one or more biological children. The birth of the first child does not involve any assisted reproductive technologies or fertility medications.
Secondary Infertility, as an infertile community label, is “you have a kid so I don’t want to hear it.” I’ve seen some horrible comments directed toward women experiencing secondary infertility. … Continue reading Dividing Women: Primary vs. Secondary Infertility
