I'm glad the carnival gave you some food for thought. I really wanted it not to be about not spanking as much as being about filling your parenting tool box with alternatives! I agree it is hard in the Christian community sometimes but I'm really happy to see gentleness becoming something talked about in those circles.

I think it's awesome that you took an issue you were passionate and made a carnival about it instead of just getting angry but not doing anything productive! I didn't know Dobson advocated corporal punishment, but I did know that both he and spanking are very prominent and accepted in the Midwest/Southern evangelical and Protestant communities (which I was part of until a few years ago and most of my family is still in). It can be tough to shift your attitude from considering something a "normal" part of parenting to it being completely unacceptable. Hubby and I are still prayerfully considering whether or not some amount of spanking can be appropriate and if so, under what circumstances, but I can tell you that your carnival gave me great food for thought and great tools to use for making our decision once Hubby has time (he's getting his doctorate on Saturday! So he is busy with finals right now. But don't worry, Baby is only 9 months old and in absolutely no danger of being spanked anytime soon!) .-= Maman A Droit´s last blog ..No, Thank You! =-.

I've been meaning to participate in your carnival, but obviously haven't. I love what you've done with this idea and how it's spreading. Parenting is about so much more than just simple obedience and behaving well and I don't know why so many parents who choose to hit their children think that's the big goal.
