Annie at PhD in Parenting had a post last year that I really like entitled Don’t Judge Me.  She talks about the phrases “don’t judge me” and “it is what it is” and to those I would like to respectively add the following phrases that make me batty:”I’m entitled to my opinion”"Let’s agree to disagree”"To each their own”

I have more than one acquaintance with which I have had the following conversation:Friend:  I don’t think a woman should be president because they are too emotionalMe: Well, I think that is predicated on two fallacies.  1) that women are inherently more emotional than

Here in Cleveland we are snowed in but everywhere has days where cabin fever can creep in.  What are your favorite indoor activities to do with your kids?

Granted, with a one year old (!!) we don’t play outside as much as with older kids but I still try to find fun things to do… Continue reading Snowed in!

This post is part of the 2010 API Principles of Parenting blog carnival, a series of monthly parenting blog carnivals, hosted by API Speaks. Learn more about attachment parenting by visiting the API websiteI’ve written before about my birth affirmations and how they helped me prepare for and participate in labor.  If you’ve never created affirmations before it might seem daunting at first.  I honestly believe they are powerful and more so when they are created by you.  I think this process will benefit your birth experience even if you never… Continue reading Preparing for Birth with Affirmations

One Year Old!  Can you believe it?  I simply can’t.  DH and I have both battled the worst stomach bug this week so today felt anticlimactic.  We’ve just been praying that she didn’t get the virus (knock on wood, she seems to be doing fine – go boob juice antibodies!).  I had so many plans about the post I would write on this important day but now I find myself … exhausted!

We did get our butts in gear enough to record her height on our Eric Carle growth chart and to do a hand

Welcome to the February Carnival of Natural Parenting: Love and partners! This post was written for inclusion in the monthly Carnival of Natural Parenting hosted by Hobo Mama and Code Name: Mama. This month we’re writing about how a co-parent has or has not supported us in our dedication to natural parenting. Please read to the end to find a list of links to the other carnival participants.******This month’s Carnival of Natural Parenting asked me how my co-parent supports my natural parenting choices.  What a great topic!  I can without hesitation say my husband is an essential… Continue reading My Reverse Traditional Husband In The Wild!

Of course the true value of having DH stay home with Aellyn goes way beyond anything that could be quantified but let’s try anyways.

How Much We Save:

One of the ways often used to decided if a parent will stay at home is how much money it would save you.

Child Care

The day care center at my work is very well priced but to approximate the one-on-one I’ll use the price of the top-of-the-line, low ratio daycare in the area:  $240 per week for 52 weeks per year – that’s $12,480 per

Let’s just get it out there.  I’m 100% pro-choice.  Meaning I do not believe Roe v. Wade should be overturned and I think abortion should be legal.  I’m 100% pro-life.  Meaning I believe that life begins at conception and is a precious and intentional act of God.

I take static from both sides of the Pro-Choice/Pro-Life campaigns.  I’ve been told by Pro-Lifers that I’m not “voting my conscience” and I’ve let my Christianity become secularized (at best – I had one person call me a eugenicist.)  Pro-Choicers vilify me because I am in favor of educating women about the nature… Continue reading Usual Suspects: NFL, CBS, Tebow, and NOW

This week’s topic:  What aspects of your parents’ parenting do you want to continue in parenting your own kid(s)?

Parenting sure has changed from when I was a kid.  For example, my pediatrician had my mom start me on solids foods at three weeks old!  Aellyn had nothing but breastmilk until… Continue reading Celebrating the Ordinary with Mom and Dad
